Gettysburg Civil War Bus Tour
Bus Travel Tour - September 10, 2022
Bus departs Willow Street, Lancaster & York, PA
Gettysburg Pennsylvania, where a three-day Civil War battle shaped the course of America's history.
We start our day at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center. The Battle of Gettysburg lasted three days. You don’t have much time. These must-see treasures will give you a quick but memorable look at the battle and its significance. The stage-setting film “A New Birth of Freedom” provides an introduction to the personalities, stories, and sites you’re about to experience. After the film, you’ll visit the iconic Cyclorama painting where you’ll stand in the middle of the fury of Pickett’s Charge. https://www.gettysburgfoundation.org
Lunch is included in your tour and will include a sub sandwich, chips, and drink.
Next, we will have a Licensed Battlefield Guide step on our motorcoach for a 3-hour tour. You will step on hallowed ground and enrich your experience as our bus makes stops at some of the battlefield’s most legendary locations. Interact with iconic landmarks such as Little Roundtop, Devils Den, Cemetery Hill, The Angle, and Copse of Trees. Understand what happened here and the impact the battle and its aftermath have on our lives today. There are more than 6,000 battlefield acres to explore and 1,300 monuments and markers to view.
Onward to a Self-Guided Walking Tour of the National Cemetery. The Gettysburg National Cemetery is famous throughout the world today as the site of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, delivered at the cemetery’s dedication ceremony four and a half months after the battle. https://www.nps.gov/gett
Next, we tour the Jennie Wade House. At just 20 years old, Jennie Wade became the only civilian casualty killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life. Artifacts from that fatal day in 1863 are on display as well, including the artillery shell that punctured the roof of the house and a floorboard with Jennie’s blood still on it. https://www.gettysburgbattlefieldtours.com
